Today at Harmony Elementary School was the first grade musical! There are two students in LIFT who are in first grade and participating in the musical. The musical was called Pajama Party. It was awesome to see the two students I have been working with on stage interacting with the musical. One student even had a duet. I could tell it was nerve racking for her to do that, but it is so empowering that she did not allow her Autism to make choices for her. The other student was enjoying the musical, too! He was all smiles up on stages and engaging in his part. So often, students with special needs are disregarded when being considered to participate in activities such as school musicals because of their diagnosis', so it was great to see a wonderful model of inclusion.
