Today we went to a conference at Hilltop from Pitt State. I went to a session about an app called "Text Help". It is a chrome extension that helps students become better readers and writers. It is used with Google Docs and appears at the top of the page. It features things like word prediction, check it, dictionary and picture dictionary, text readers, highlighting, and creating a vocabulary list. My favorite feature was the vocabulary list it could create by highlighting words. It was create a table with the word, definition, and a picture. This app would be a great extension for special education and elementary education classes. When student used this extension, 66% of them improved in reading and writing while only 27% of students who didn't use this extension improved.
