Today Ms. Skouse was absent so I got to teach the first graders their reading lesson. We reviewed vowels and worked on sounding out words with the short vowel sound and identifying the vowel in each of the words. We took a brain break half-way though the lesson to do letter sounds flashcards. After this, Ms. Skouse said that we could play the Silent 'e' Game again. It is amazing to see students enjoy one of my lessons so much that they request it. This time, the students didn't even need to write the word out. They were able to read the word and sound it out using the long vowel rules. It makes me very sad that my last day with these sweet students will be Friday!
