Today at Stanley Elementary, I got to teach a lesson by myself to a first grader. We worked on counting blocks and then identifying the number we counted and writing it. The student is making a lot of progress in math. He has room for growth with memorizing the order of numbers 1-20 and being able to identify all numbers 1-100. At first the student was struggling identifying numbers on a chart, so I used chip markers to mark the single digits 0-9 and then had the student identify the double digit number. For example, if a student was needing to identify 46, I would mark 4 and 6 and the student would find 46. Teaching this lesson challenged me to think of creative ways to help the student understand the material.
