I am learning at my time with Mrs. Skouse the benefits of incorporating technology properly into lessons to help engage students better. The kindergartners are learning the silent 'e' rule. For example, in the word "dim", the proper letter sound rules are followed. But when the silent 'e' is added to make "dime", the silent 'e' makes the vowel say it's name. Mrs. Skouse used an online keyboard website for the students to drag the letters and make the word. First they would make the word without the silent 'e', such as "pin", and say the letter sounds, then they would add an 'e' to make "pine" at the end and pronounce the word with the 'e' making the vowel say it's name. It is amazing to see the progress the students have made in just a few days. They have both mastered the silent 'e' rule and are becoming such great readers. I love the excitement the kindergarten students have when they learn something new.
