Today at Stanley with the Reading Intervention program, we helped Ms. Healy create a winter reading bulletin board. The board turned out great. It had snowflakes cut from coffee filters and pictures of students in the library, with the words "winter reading is snow fun". For the second half of our time at Stanley, we met with the second grade groups and fifth grade mentors to work in groups with comprehension cards. The front of the cards had a short story, and the back of the story had 5 questions about the story. Based on results from reading benchmark tests done at Stanley, the most common lowest reading score is in the comprehension category. We will be working with students to improve their reading comprehension skills.
