Today at Stanley Elementary we worked on word building with the kindergarten group. To do this, we used letter boards that are magnetic. Ms. Skouse gave the students a word to spell and the students tapped out the letter sounds on their fingers and clapped the syllables. The students then spelled the words out on their boards. Ms. Skouse would also challenge them to change a letter to make a new word, for example they would change “clap” to “slap”. I learned that a digraph is a two letters that make one sound, and a blend is two letters that make two separate sounds. Today was also the 100th day of school, so I got to join classrooms for some exciting activities that were fun but incorporated learning around the number ‘100’.
